Throughout October I worked with an amazing artist called Josie Easton to run a collaborative campaign aimed at working with you guys to solve a small part of a horrible problem.
Across the world, hundreds of thousands suffer from Trachoma, an eye disease that leads to blindness if left untreated. With only a £10 small operation needed, this particular case of loss of sight is as unjust as it gets.
So we wanted to see if there was a way we could raise money to help some of these people. But, we was keen to come up with an idea to do so that had something different and creative about it. So we invited you to help by crowd-funding one of Josie’s fingerprint portraits. Our thinking was that for each £10 donation, someone would commission one fingerprint towards the thousands needed for Josie to create a portrait of the Human Eye, which could then be sold to raise more money. Here’s a video of her at work that we produced about half way through the campaign….
And it worked! You paid for 741 fingerprints through our IndieGoGo campaign which enabled Josie to produce a beautiful portrait which then sold for £700. Totalled, we raised £8,131 and paid for 813 people to have the surgery they need to maintain their right to see the world. To say I’m thankful of your efforts is a huge understatement.
I’m looking forward to doing more like this with you lot.
